A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the community of Angleton, Texas, after a 31-year-old mother was accused of shooting her four children, killing two of them and leaving the other two gravely injured.

Authorities in Brazoria County reported that the woman faces two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff Bo Stallman confirmed that the suspect remains in custody on a $14 million bond, according to NBC News.

The horror unfolded on Saturday when the mother allegedly opened fire inside a vehicle where her children were sitting.

Two of the victims — a 13-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl — died from gunshot wounds.

The other two children, ages 8 and 9, were airlifted to a Houston-area hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

According to authorities, the Texas mother herself called 911 after killing her children.

Officers arriving at the scene recovered a firearm, though details about the weapon and the exact circumstances of the attack have not yet been released.

Sheriff Stallman described the case as “a senseless tragedy” and assured that his team “will do everything possible to seek justice for these children.”

The Texas mother accused of killing her children, identified as a resident of Montgomery County north of Houston, carried out the shooting in Angleton — a small city of about 19,500 residents and the county seat of Brazoria.

The location is roughly 45 miles (70 kilometers) south of Houston.
