A man from Texas who was serving a 40-year prison sentence for murdering and decapitating his wife—just months after marrying her—was found dead in his cell, state authorities reported.
The man was identified as Jared James Dicus, who had pleaded guilty in 2024 to the murder of Anggy Diaz.
According to initial reports, his death appears to have been the result of a self-inflicted injury while he was incarcerated.

The murder occurred on January 11, 2023, when Jared James Dicus’ parents called 911 to report a death at a small cabin located on their property near Magnolia, about 70 kilometers northwest of Houston.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the decapitated body of Anggy Diaz, covered in blood.
According to court documents, the victim had multiple stab wounds to her back, and her head was found in the shower of the cabin. The knife used in the attack was also recovered at the scene.
The then-county sheriff, Troy Guidry, described the discovery as an “extremely grotesque” scene.
The couple had been married just four months earlier, in October 2022.

After his arrest, Jared James Dicus accepted a plea deal that resulted in a 40-year prison sentence, with the possibility of parole in 2043.
However, last Friday he was found hanging inside his cell at the Wainwright Unit, located in Lovelady, according to a state death report.
Medical personnel attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The Texas prison authorities stated that the death remains under review, although there were no indications of third-party involvement.
