Representative Thomas Massie responded this week to President Donald Trump, accusing him of “trying to be a bully” after the president appeared to publicly criticize the Kentucky Republican’s recent marriage.

“His wife will soon find out she’s stuck with a LOSER!” Massie married Carolyn Moffa, a former adviser to Senator Rand Paul, last month.

Rekindled Public Tensions
Conservatives should be calling @realDonaldTrump out for this repulsive behavior & demanding better of him.
This is beneath the Office of the President & beneath basic human decency.@RepThomasMassie lost his wife of over 30 years to whom he was loyal until death & remarried… pic.twitter.com/91XuT1vwhd

The relationship between Thomas Massie and the president has been tense in recent months, especially since the Kentucky lawmaker and Representative Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, introduced a bill requiring the Department of Justice to fully release government files related to Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking.
Massie believes Trump’s administration has shown opposition to this measure, causing friction between them and fueling the ongoing Thomas Massie Trump feud.
The situation escalated after the president’s social media post.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on November 16, Massie responded sarcastically to the president’s comment, noting that his wife said:
“We should have invited Donald Trump. He’s just mad he didn’t get an invitation.”
However, Thomas Massie also said the president’s words were not taken lightly. “We take it very seriously,” the congressman said.
“He’s bullying others, or trying to bully others.”

In the same interview, Thomas Massie commented on Trump’s endorsement of a Republican challenger who will run against him in the 2026 midterm elections.
The lawmaker insisted that his political standing remains strong despite the pressure.
“We are winning,” Massie said. He added that senior officials—including the president and vice president—are “suffering a big loss this week” because, according to him, his legislative initiative is moving forward.
Together with Khanna, Massie is pushing a discharge petition aimed at forcing a floor vote—something he considers a significant achievement after months of resistance.
The congressman emphasized that his proposal is advancing: “We are forcing this vote, and it’s going to happen.”
A History of Disagreements
The current confrontation is not new in the relationship between Massie and Trump.
The two have clashed publicly on multiple occasions, especially on foreign policy and national security decisions.
In June, the president attacked Massie for his criticism of U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
That episode marked yet another chapter in a political relationship defined by recurring tension and strategic disagreements.
The latest dispute involving Massie’s personal life—his marriage—adds a new dimension to this long-running rift, making it clear that the Thomas Massie Trump feud will continue to draw attention within the Republican Party.
