Moreno was reportedly arrested in 2024 in Columbus, Ohio, after failing to attend multiple mandatory appointments with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

He crossed the southern border at Eagle Pass, Texas.
Although initially released after entry, his failure to comply with immigration procedures led to his eventual arrest and deportation.

Leonel Moreno’s return comes as part of a new flight under the “Plan Vuelta a la Patria,” a repatriation program launched by the Venezuelan government to bring back citizens facing adverse conditions abroad.
This flight marks the seventh group of Venezuelans deported this year, and the first involving migrants from the United States.
The repatriation initiative has returned hundreds of Venezuelans in recent months.
On February 10, the first two flights arrived with 190 nationals from the U.S., followed by another group of 177 individuals from the U.S. military base in Guantánamo on February 20.

In Leonel Moreno’s case, his story illustrates the risks of irregular migration.
As well as the legal consequences of failing to follow immigration laws.
Reactions to Leíto Oficial’s Deportation
Venezuelans shouldn’t be angry at Donald Trump for not extending TPS, but at Leíto Oficial, the Tren de Aragua, and all the Chavista trash that went to the U.S. and ruined the image of Venezuelans abroad. ?? Let’s be honest! pic.twitter.com/b79iyc7d1g
