Former England international rugby player Tom Voyce, 43, has gone missing, and the worst is feared.
His car was found stuck in an overflowing river near Alnwick in Northumbria, north of Newcastle.
Northumbria Police confirmed that the vehicle was recovered from the River Aln, but they have not been able to locate the athlete.
According to investigations, Voyce attempted to cross a dangerous section of the river, where the current swept his car away.

“Officers recovered his car, but unfortunately, Tom has not yet been found,” stated the police.
“It is believed that during his attempts to escape, he was tragically swept away and lost his life,” police added in a statement posted on X.

The alert about his disappearance was raised on Sunday morning after he failed to return home following a night out with friends.
Since then, authorities have conducted extensive searches, but so far, no positive results have been found.

Tom Voyce, who played as a winger and full-back, represented England in nine matches between 2001 and 2006.
He excelled during his time with Wasps, securing European and national titles between 2003 and 2009.
Voyce also played for Bath and Gloucester, accumulating 220 Premiership appearances before retiring in May 2013.
