A tornado wreaked havoc in Orlando this Monday, destroying homes and affecting a television channel that broadcast the impact live.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that the tornado touched down in Seminole County with winds of up to 115 miles per hour.

The phenomenon moved quickly and crossed the I-4 highway, which leads to Disney and Universal Studios parks.

Its path took it directly to the FOX 35 Orlando studios in Lake Mary, hitting the building while the station was broadcasting live.

«We are seeing a tornado on radar, this is serious,» warned meteorologist Brooks Garner seconds before the impact.

Security cameras captured the moment debris flew across the parking lot and the structure was violently shaken by the wind’s force.

In the community of Longwood, the tornado destroyed at least two homes.

One family managed to take refuge in a safe room, the only part of the house that remained standing after the tornado passed.

No serious injuries were reported after the tornado in Orlando, but material damages were considerable.

The storm not only affected Florida but also hit several southern and central states.

Tornadoes were reported in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, leaving power outages and destruction in their wake.

In Lowndes County, Georgia, a tornado knocked down power poles, leaving thousands without electricity.

In Mississippi, intense rains caused sudden floods on several roads.

In Tennessee, winds tore roofs off homes and overturned vehicles on Interstate 40.

The Storm Prediction Center warned that atmospheric instability would continue throughout the week.

«We expect more severe storms with the possibility of tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail in the southeast of the country,» a spokesperson for the agency reported.

Florida authorities asked residents to avoid areas with debris and downed power lines after the tornado.

«We ask everyone to stay safe and avoid going out unless necessary,» warned the Seminole County emergency chief.

In Alabama and Georgia, Governors Kay Ellen Ivey and Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency in several affected counties.

Rescue teams are working on damage assessment and the restoration of basic services.

Meteorologists warned that the severe storm season is just beginning and that more extreme weather could impact the United States in the coming weeks.
