An agricultural worker family is facing one of the most difficult moments of their lives after the father had to undergo an emergency liver transplant following severe poisoning caused by the accidental consumption of toxic mushrooms.
Unable to work and overwhelmed by medical expenses, their children have launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to support his recovery.
An Accidental Poisoning That Changed the Family’s Life

The incident occurred during a walk in the area of Toro Park, when the father collected wild mushrooms without knowing they were highly toxic.
That same evening, he and his wife prepared the mushrooms for dinner, unaware that hours later both would begin to experience severe symptoms of poisoning.
While the mother stabilized after receiving medical care, the father’s condition worsened rapidly, to the point of becoming life-threatening.
Due to the severity of his condition, he was urgently transferred to a hospital at Stanford Health Care, where doctors determined he needed an immediate liver transplant to survive.
A Successful Emergency Liver Transplant, but a Long Recovery

The family confirmed that the emergency liver transplant was successful and that the father’s body accepted the donated organ, allowing his condition to stabilize.
However, doctors have been clear: the recovery will be long and complex, requiring constant monitoring, medical treatments, and specialized care.
During this process, neither he nor his wife can work, leaving the family without income at a critical time.
As farm laborers, their livelihood depends on temporary, physically demanding jobs, making the forced pause a severe economic blow.
A Family That Has Always Worked Hard

The parents have dedicated their entire lives to agricultural work to raise six children, enduring long hours, constant physical strain, and the job instability typical of field labor.
According to their daughter Flor Díaz, they had never asked for help before, but the current situation has led them to rely on the solidarity of the community.
Medical expenses from the transplant, prolonged hospitalization, and the recovery process have accumulated quickly, exceeding the family’s financial capacity.
GoFundMe: A Vital Support Network

Given these circumstances, the family launched a campaign titled “Support My Father’s Recovery After a Liver Transplant”, aiming to raise funds to cover:
- Medical costs related to the transplant
- Recovery expenses and follow-up treatments
- Basic necessities while both parents are unable to work
The family explains that any donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference in helping them stay afloat during this period of uncertainty linked to the toxic mushrooms tragedy.
A Call to the Community
Beyond financial support, the children also express gratitude for the prayers, messages of encouragement, and emotional backing they have received.
For them, this campaign represents not only financial assistance but also proof that they are not alone during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
The family trusts that, with the community’s support, the father will be able to focus on his recovery and eventually resume his life with his loved ones.
