- Aims to Reduce 10% Tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that the United Kingdom will be the first country with which he signs a trade agreement during his current term.
“The deal with the United Kingdom is complete and comprehensive,” Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He stated that the pact would strengthen the bilateral relationship “for many years to come.”

Why does the United Kingdom trade deal matter:
This is the first major trade announcement of Trump’s second term in office.
The UK has been seeking relief from the 10% U.S. tariffs on its exports and additional 25% duties on key products like steel, aluminum, and vehicles.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the agreement as a move toward “security and renewal” for the UK.
Trump tariffs by the numbers::
- 10%: Tariff the U.S. has imposed on all British exports since last month.
- 25%: Additional duties applied specifically to UK steel, aluminum, and automobiles.
- 1st: Trade agreement announced by Trump since returning to office.
Between the lines:
Trump emphasized that the deal with the UK is the “first of many” agreements to come.
Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed his commitment to always act “in the national interest” when negotiating international agreements.
What’s next:
- A joint press conference is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
- Both leaders are expected to provide further details about the terms and sectors covered in the deal.
- Experts anticipate the agreement will include tariff relief and provisions to strengthen bilateral investment.
