President-elect Donald Trump announced on Thursday the appointment of Rodney Scott as the Director of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Scott, who served as Chief of the Border Patrol in 2020, resigned after Joe Biden assumed the presidency.
The announcement was made via the social network Truth Social, where Trump praised Scott’s efforts in reducing immigration.
“Rodney continued educating politicians and the public on the importance of border security after his retirement,” Trump stated.
Stricter Immigration Policies and Controversial Actions Under Rodney Scott
The president-elect reaffirmed his commitment to intensify immigration policies starting on the first day of his administration.
Rodney Scott spearheaded controversial measures, such as the use of tear gas against migrants at the San Diego border.
During his tenure in 2020, Border Patrol agents were involved in protests in Portland, drawing criticism for operating outside federal properties.
Scott denied allegations of the improper deployment of agents in urban areas during the protests.
Donald Trump also announced Caleb Vitello as the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The promise of massive raids has raised concerns among pro-immigrant organizations and millions of undocumented individuals.
