Donald Trump has once again sparked controversy with his statements about the U.S. education system.
The former president threatened to cut federal funding for any school or university that allows «illegal protests.»
«All federal funding will be stopped for any college, school, or university that allows illegal protests,» he stated on his Truth Social network.
Trump also warned that students who participate in these demonstrations could face jail time or deportation.
Trump Cracks Down on University Protests

«Agitators will be jailed or permanently sent back to the country they came from,» he declared.
The president had previously threatened to cut funding to educational institutions that teach gender and race theories or allow transgender athletes to compete in female sports teams.
«American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS!» he added.
Donald Trump’s comments come amid widespread unrest on U.S. college campuses.
In April 2024, thousands of students took part in protests against the war in Gaza and Washington’s support for Israel.
The protests lasted about three months, leading to the arrest of approximately 3,100 people.

The U.S. government recently announced that it may revoke over $50 million in contracts with Columbia University.
This decision comes after accusations that the institution failed to protect Jewish students during the protests.
Columbia was one of the universities most impacted by the demonstrations.
University President Nemat (Minouche) Shafik faced heavy criticism for allowing police to enter the campus to remove protesters.
The pressure was so intense that she ultimately resigned from her position.
Trump has made cracking down on university protests a key part of his political platform.
Trump Tightens Sanctions on Pro-Palestinian Students

At the end of January, Trump signed an executive order aimed at increasing sanctions on the pro-Palestinian movement.
The measure includes identifying foreign students who participated in the protests to deport them.
It also seeks to revoke visas for those deemed «Hamas sympathizers.»
«American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested,» Trump reiterated.
Many protesters have denied any ties to Hamas or antisemitism.
They argue that their goal was to protest against Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in over 47,000 deaths.
In late February, the Department of Justice announced that a task force will visit ten universities across the country.
Among them are the prestigious Columbia University and Harvard University.
The objective is to gather information on the pro-Palestinian protests and evaluate possible sanctions.
