- Trump defends immigration raids, saying he needs “gardeners and farmers more than anyone.”
- Trump states that if “you entered the country illegally, you’re going to leave.”
- He insists that many detainees “are murderers.”
U.S. President Donald Trump said this Sunday that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids “haven’t gone far enough” and defended the violent tactics used by agents to “get people out” of the U.S.
In an interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Trump was asked whether the ICE raids had gone too far.
This comes after several videos surfaced showing ICE agents pushing a woman to the ground, using tear gas in a residential area, and smashing a car window.

The president was asked if he believed the raids had gone too far, to which he replied: “No, I don’t think they’ve gone far enough, because we’ve been held back by judges — the liberal judges appointed by (former Democratic presidents) Biden and Obama,” he said.
When pressed about whether he approved of the tactics seen in the videos, Trump responded affirmatively: “Yes, because you have to get people out.”
He added that “many are murderers,” repeating one of his campaign arguments in favor of mass deportations that broadly criminalize immigrants.
Trump Says: “If You Entered the Country Illegally, You’re Going to Leave”
When asked about the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants who are not criminals, Trump avoided directly saying whether that was his administration’s intention.
He declared: “We must start with a policy, and that policy must be: you entered the country illegally, you’re going to leave.”
Trump also avoided setting a clear goal for his immigration policy that would allow him to “declare mission accomplished,” estimating there are 25 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. — a figure he has repeated before without evidence.
He Says He Needs Gardeners and Farmers
Trump reiterated that there are “25 million undocumented immigrants” in the country, though he again provided no proof.
When asked about the deportation of essential workers — a move affecting the labor market in several states — Trump initially remarked that they were “criminal gardeners.”
However, he later added: “I need gardeners and farmers more than anyone.”
These statements have reignited debate over the Trump immigration raids 2025, highlighting the contradictions in his rhetoric — both attacking and acknowledging the labor contributions of immigrant workers.
