  • National political tensions grow

According to El Financiero, U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out Thursday against a group of Democratic lawmakers who released a video urging government employees and members of the military not to follow orders that violate the law. He accused them of sedition and suggested they should face the death penalty.

In a series of social media posts, Trump claimed the Democrats involved had engaged in “sedition at the highest level” by asking the armed forces to reject any instructions they consider illegal.

The president described the six lawmakers as “traitors” and wrote that “each one of these traitors to our country must be arrested and tried,” stressing that their words cannot be tolerated under any circumstance.

According to Trump, the statements in the video represent a direct threat to the country and, for that reason, he said that “an example must be made” to prevent similar messages from being repeated in the future.

In another post, the president added that the behavior he attributes to the lawmakers is “punishable by death,” raising the tone of his accusations and placing his message at an extreme level within recent political discourse.

Trump’s remarks came amid rising tensions and incendiary rhetoric, as the White House struggles to contain voter concerns over economic issues.

These tensions also coincide with the president’s failed attempt to persuade lawmakers to block a bill requiring the disclosure of documents related to the investigation of financier Jeffrey Epstein.

On social media, Trump also reposted a user’s message calling for the Democrats involved to be hanged, further fueling the controversy and drawing even more criticism in the political arena.

Death penalty mentioned after Democrats’ video

The original video that triggered the president’s reaction featured six Democratic lawmakers with military or national security experience, who issued a call for public employees to defend the Constitution.

In that video, the Democrats stressed that government officials and members of the armed forces are obligated to disobey illegal orders, although they did not specify any particular case or mention any concrete actions by the president.

Trump, however, interpreted the message as a call for rebellion within the government and the military, directly accusing the lawmakers of inciting an institutional breakdown.

The president has frequently resorted to accusations of “treason” or “sedition” against people, movements, and political figures he considers opponents.

On previous occasions, Trump has used those terms to refer to the Black Lives Matter movement, former President Barack Obama, former FBI Director James Comey, and various officials within the FBI itself.

He has also directed such accusations at media outlets and sectors that have questioned his administration’s decisions, using the language of sedition as part of his rhetorical strategy.

However, his suggestion that the Democratic lawmakers linked to the video could face the death penalty increased the severity of his claims and drew a new wave of criticism.

Political analysts have pointed out that explicitly mentioning capital punishment could amplify public attention on the video, generating the opposite effect of what the president may have intended.

Political crisis and focus on sedition

The president’s posts also came as his administration tries to shift attention away from domestic problems related to the cost of living and inflation, issues that have become key concerns for voters.

The White House has sought to redirect the public conversation toward national security and internal threats, a strategy it has repeatedly used during moments of political tension.

The Democrats’ video spread widely across social media and sparked divided reactions among users—some saw it as a call to defend the rule of law, while others viewed it as political provocation.

Although the message focused on reminding public servants of their constitutional duty to reject illegal orders, Trump presented it as a direct threat to presidential leadership.
