U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Thursday, June 19, that he had signed a new executive order which extends by 90 additional days the deadline for TikTok to separate from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, in order to continue operating legally within U.S. territory.
“I just signed the executive order extending the TikTok shutdown deadline by 90 days (until September 17, 2025). Thanks for your attention to this matter!”

This is the third extension granted by the Republican president since his return to the White House, as part of an ongoing process aimed at ensuring the protection of American users’ personal data.
The executive order specifies that the Department of Justice will not penalize any entity during this new period for violations of the U.S. Protection Against Foreign Adversary-Controlled Applications Act.
Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, stated that the extension aims to allow time to finalize a deal that would let TikTok operate under the backing of an investor not considered a foreign adversary.
“Trump doesn’t want TikTok to disappear,” Leavitt emphasized. “He just wants Americans’ data to be safe.”

On April 4, Trump granted TikTok a second extension of 75 days, which was set to expire on June 19.
The app was even temporarily suspended in the U.S. after failing to reach an agreement—until Trump signed his first executive order on January 20, the day he returned to power.
The president has said he has a “soft spot” for TikTok, believing that the platform was key to boosting his popularity among young voters during the November elections.
