President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that his ambitious national defense project, known as the “Golden Dome,” will cost approximately $175 billion and will be completed before the end of his term in 2029.
Speaking from the White House alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump stated that the national budget will include an initial $25 billion to launch construction of the system.
“It should be fully operational before the end of my term, so we’ll have it ready in about three years,” said the president.
“Once built, it will be able to intercept missiles even if they are launched from other parts of the world—or from space,” he added.

Trump vowed the U.S. would have “the best system ever built.”
“We helped Israel with theirs and had great success. Now we have far more advanced technology, including hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and advanced cruise missiles,” he said.
The proposal was originally presented to Congress in March, when Trump requested funding to develop “a next-generation Golden Dome missile defense shield to protect the homeland, made in America.”
At that time, he referenced Israel’s Iron Dome system but emphasized that the U.S. version would be even more sophisticated.
Israel’s system, designed to intercept short-range rockets and drones in populated areas, reportedly costs around $50,000 per intercepted missile.
CNN reported that the Congressional Budget Office estimates the full deployment of Trump’s «Golden Dome» could require more than $500 billion over two decades to become fully operational.
Trump also revealed that Canada has expressed interest in joining the initiative.
“It makes total sense, and it won’t be difficult to include them—but they’ll pay their fair share,” he said of a possible agreement with the neighboring country.
“I’ve been looking forward to this day because it’s essential to the success—and even the survival—of our country. We live in an evil world. This will contribute greatly to the survival of this great nation,” the president declared.
Secretary Hegseth echoed the president’s statements and noted that America’s adversaries will be watching the Golden Dome project closely.

“They’re going to pay a lot of attention to this—just like they’ve paid attention to President Trump since day one. He’s defending the homeland, defending the American people. It will benefit my children, my grandchildren, and all of us,” Hegseth said.
Later, the Department of Defense released a technical statement outlining system details, including space-based interceptors and sensors.
“While the U.S. already possesses some space technologies—like satellite sensors and air and missile defense systems—all elements of the Golden Dome architecture will need to be seamlessly integrated,” the statement read.
“The Golden Dome will be deployed in phases, prioritizing defense where threats are most severe,” it concluded, with the document signed by Hegseth.
The Golden Dome project represents a new phase in the United States’ national defense strategy under the Trump administration, positioning the country as a global leader in missile defense and space security systems.
As plans move forward and costs are debated, international attention is focused on Trump’s next moves and his ambitious vision for global protection.
Do you think this Golden Dome will truly enhance U.S. security, or is it an excessive expense in times of economic uncertainty?
