According to the EFE agency, U.S. President Donald Trump sparked fresh controversy on Monday by publicly attacking climate activist Greta Thunberg, labeling her a “troublemaker” and suggesting she “should see a doctor” following her deportation from Israel.
The remarks came during a White House press conference when Trump was asked about Thunberg’s participation in the humanitarian flotilla Global Sumud, which was detained by the Israeli Navy while sailing toward the Gaza Strip.
“She’s just a troublemaker, you know? She doesn’t care about the environment anymore — now she’s into this. She’s a troublemaker. She has anger issues. I think she should see a doctor,” the president said, with a critical and sarcastic tone.
Environmental groups and human rights organizations condemned the remarks as “disrespectful toward a young woman who has dedicated her life to humanitarian causes.”

The Swedish activist, 22, arrived Monday at Athens International Airport after being deported by Israeli authorities along with 135 members of the international flotilla who attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Thunberg explained that her goal was to “raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis” in the Gaza Strip, but claimed that the Israeli Navy operation resulted in “excessive use of force” against those on board.
“Israel is trying to wipe out an entire population,” she told journalists at the Greek airport, reiterating her support for the Palestinian cause and criticizing Israel’s military actions in the region.
The activist also said she “could speak at length about the mistreatment and abuse suffered during detention,” but preferred to focus on what she described as “the broader struggle for dignity and justice for the people of Gaza.”
Trump Attacks Greta Thunberg and Reignites Controversy

Donald Trump’s comments mark a new chapter in his long record of clashes with youth leaders and social movements challenging his administration’s handling of environmental and human rights issues.
During his first term, the president had already called Thunberg a “very angry teenager” after she criticized global inaction on climate change at the 2019 UN Climate Summit.
Monday’s attack, however, goes beyond environmental issues — taking place amid a sensitive geopolitical moment marked by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and international divisions over Israel’s military response.
According to political analysts, the president’s reaction appears aimed at discrediting Thunberg’s growing role as a global advocate expanding her activism beyond climate issues to social justice and human rights.
The Humanitarian Flotilla and Israel’s Response

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which included Greta Thunberg, set sail with the goal of delivering medical supplies and food to Gaza, where the ongoing conflict has left thousands dead and injured.
The group was intercepted by the Israeli Navy in international waters, prompting condemnations from several humanitarian organizations, which described the interception as a violation of international law.
Israel defended the operation, arguing that the flotilla attempted to breach the maritime blockade imposed on Gaza since 2007, and stated that its forces acted according to “national security protocols.”
After the deportation, the flotilla members — including Thunberg — were taken to Greece, where they received medical and consular assistance from international organizations.
Global Reactions and Defense of Humanitarian Activism
Shortly after Trump’s remarks, Greta Thunberg indirectly responded via her social media accounts, posting a photo holding a sign that read: “Speaking for the oppressed will never be a crime.”
Although she didn’t mention Trump by name, her followers interpreted the post as a direct rebuttal to his statements.
Environmental leaders worldwide expressed solidarity with Thunberg and accused the president of “using his platform to discredit an inconvenient voice.”
The incident adds yet another chapter to the tense relationship between Trump and international social movements, at a time when the president seeks to reinforce his “America First” policy and distance himself from global humanitarian agendas.
