U.S. lawmaker Shri Thanedar initiated proceedings on Monday to attempt to impeach President Donald Trump.
Thanedar, a Democratic representative from Michigan, is the first member of his party to launch a new impeachment effort against Trump.
«Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as president,» the congressman stated on his website.
The Indian-born legislator argued that the president represents a «clear and present danger» to American democracy.
Thanedar Accuses Trump of Subverting the Judicial System and Calls for His Removal

Shri Thanedar contends that Trump’s «illegal actions» during his first 100 days have undermined the judicial system.
He also accuses Trump of violating the separation of powers and prioritizing personal interests over public service.
«We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act,» the congressman emphasized.
The resolution presented by Thanedar includes seven articles of impeachment against the president.
Among the charges are obstruction of justice, abuse of power in commerce, and international aggression.
He also accuses Trump of violating rights protected under the First Amendment, such as freedom of speech.
Shri Thanedar further denounced the creation of an «illicit office,» referring to the Government Efficiency Department led by Elon Musk.
For the legislator, the country needs «leadership rooted in integrity and accountability, not authoritarianism.»
«This is not about partisanship. It’s about protecting our democracy,» he insisted.
Trump was previously subjected to two impeachment proceedings during his first term as president.
In 2019, he faced charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress but was acquitted by the Senate.

In 2021, Trump was again impeached for incitement of insurrection during the assault on the Capitol.
On that occasion, he was also acquitted by the U.S. Senate.
The new attempt led by Thanedar faces serious difficulties, as Republicans currently control the House of Representatives.
Even if the articles were approved in the lower chamber, the impeachment trial would move to a Senate with a conservative majority.
