- Trump celebrates court ruling
- National Guard remains under federal control
- Newsom challenges federal decision
President Donald Trump celebrated a judicial decision that allows him to continue controlling the National Guard in California, despite opposition from state authorities.
“MAJOR VICTORY in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals regarding the President’s fundamental authority to call up the National Guard!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
The court’s decision marks a setback for Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who has led a legal battle to stop the president’s measure.
“A great ruling,” Trump added in his post, claiming that “the three judges on the court clearly realized that Newsom is incompetent and unprepared.”
Trump Reacts with Euphoria to Court Ruling

The federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled in favor of the Republican president, allowing him to maintain control over some 4,000 troops deployed to Los Angeles.
These forces were deployed to protect federal buildings and support law enforcement during protests against ICE immigration raids.
The ruling temporarily overturns a previous decision that required Trump to return control of the National Guard to California.
Federal district judge Charles Breyer had declared the federalization of those troops illegal, but his order is now suspended while the legal process continues.
“But this is much more important than Gavin [Newsom],” Trump stated in his message.
“Because across the United States, if our cities and our people need protection, it is us who will provide it,” the president asserted.
Trump reiterated that the federal government must intervene if local police forces are unable to maintain order “for whatever reason.”
Governor Newsom expressed disappointment, although he noted that the court ruling did not give Trump a blank check.
“We welcome the Ninth Circuit’s rejection of Donald Trump’s sweeping claims that he could federalize California’s National Guard at will and without judicial oversight,” he said in a statement.
The state governor denounced what he sees as an authoritarian overreach by the president.

“The president is not a king, nor is he above the law,” Newsom stated.
“We will continue to challenge the president’s authoritarian use of U.S. troops against our citizens,” he added.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also opposed the military presence without local authorization.
Both she and Newsom insist that California authorities are capable of handling the situation without federal interference.
The protests that led to the legal conflict took place during ICE immigration operations, which began peacefully but turned violent in some areas.
The current ruling fits into a broader tense relationship between the federal government and Democratic-led state governments.
The dispute could reach the Supreme Court if it continues to escalate in the coming weeks.
Trump, who has made immigration control a political cornerstone, has remained firm on using the National Guard to support federal security measures.
Meanwhile, civil rights groups and human rights advocates have strongly criticized the use of troops in the context of social protests.
The debate over state sovereignty versus federal power has once again taken center stage in U.S. politics.
Do you think the president should have the authority to deploy state troops without local approval?
