U.S. President Donald Trump offered his first reflections after the much-anticipated summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, held at the Elmendorf-Richardson base in Alaska.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the president described the meeting as “very positive,” sharing his main lessons and impressions.

While avoiding specifics on sensitive issues, Trump stressed that progress was made in peace negotiations and that his personal rapport with Putin was “excellent.”

This was reported by CNN.

Trump highlights key outcomes from the Alaska summit

During the interview, Trump insisted that “there is no deal until there is a deal,” but assured that Putin “wants this to happen” and that Moscow shows genuine willingness to move forward.

He declined to disclose the main sticking point that blocked an immediate ceasefire, saying he preferred to keep that information private while talks continue.

Trump also stressed that responsibility now lies with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European nations, urging them to engage more actively in the process.

He confirmed he would be open to a trilateral summit with Zelensky and Putin to consolidate the progress made in Alaska.

Assessment of the meeting and messages to Putin

The president rated the Alaska summit a “10 out of 10,” citing his strong personal chemistry with Putin, which he said fostered a constructive dialogue.

He added that Putin now respects the United States in a way that “did not happen under Joe Biden’s presidency.”

Trump also celebrated that Putin agreed with his claim that the war in Ukraine “never would have happened” had he been in office in 2022, when the invasion began. That acknowledgment, he argued, validated his long-standing position that his foreign policy would have prevented the conflict.

Although the talks did not yield an immediate deal, Trump emphasized that the foundation for a future agreement had been laid, with involved nations already working on arranging new high-level meetings.

Expectations moving forward

Trump reiterated that his goal is to secure a comprehensive peace deal, not just a ceasefire. He called the progress at the Alaska summit a historic opportunity to “change the dynamic in Europe” and lower the risk of further escalation.

On his Truth Social account, he summed up his sentiment with a brief message: “GREAT PROGRESS WITH RUSSIA.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky and European leaders are preparing for further talks in Washington, where the promises made in Alaska are expected to begin translating into concrete commitments.
