President-elect Donald Trump called the terrorist attack in New Orleans a “pure act of evil” and stated that an illegal immigrant is responsible.

According to Daily Mail, the suspect who killed at least 10 people and injured over 30 in Bourbon Street crossed Eagle Pass, Texas, just two days ago.

The individual’s immigration status has not yet been confirmed, according to the report.

It is also noteworthy that the suspect was shot and killed during an armed confrontation.

Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to discuss the mass hit-and-run.

“When I said that criminals entering our country are much worse than those we already have, Democrats and the fake news media constantly refuted me, but it turned out to be true,” he said.

“The crime rate in our country is at a level that no one has ever seen before,” the president-elect emphasized.

“Our hearts are with all the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department,” he mentioned.

“The Trump Administration will fully support the city of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this pure act of evil,” he stated.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has been criticized for his “insensitive” response following the tragic overnight event.

Biden’s first message on X in 2025 was a simple “Happy New Year, friends” posted at 10 a.m. (Eastern Time).

This occurred hours after the attacker ran over a crowd in Bourbon Street around 3 a.m. local time.

Later, Biden issued a formal statement condemning the “act of terrorism” and offering condolences to the victims’ families.

The White House released a statement saying that Joe Biden spoke with New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Wednesday morning to offer “full federal support.”

Additionally, the FBI is leading the investigation into the “horrible” incident and working closely with local and state authorities.

House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the attack, calling it a “pure act of evil” and demanded swift justice for those involved.

“Join us in praying for the victims, their families, and the first responders and investigators on the scene,” Johnson wrote on X.

Witnesses described the suspect as someone “equipped with full body armor” and armed with an assault rifle, according to Daily Mail.

Biden will continue to be updated on the progress of the investigation as the nation deals with the impact of this tragedy.

For now, Donald Trump continues to blame illegal immigrants for the heinous crimes occurring in the U.S.
