After months of decline, President Donald Trump’s approval among working-class voters has begun to slightly rebound.
However, economic issues and the handling of the Epstein case could jeopardize this fragile progress.
According to the latest YouGov/Economist poll (conducted July 16-18), Trump’s approval among American workers rose to 38%, with a disapproval rating of 55%, resulting in a net rating of -17.
Although still negative, this is an improvement from the June low of -26 and may signal a potential turning point in the trend.

In comparison, in May the president had 40% approval and 52% disapproval.
Although the current level is still below the start of the year, the recovery could strengthen his core electorate ahead of the 2026 elections.
Working-class voters have been Trump’s stronghold since 2016 and were decisive in his 2024 reelection.
Therefore, any change in their support is politically significant.
Economic discontent and inflation persist

Despite the slight rebound, the economic outlook remains bleak. Only 30% of respondents believe the country is headed in the right direction, while 59% think otherwise.
Inflation also weighs heavily: in July, 61% said it is getting worse, and only 26% perceive any improvement.
Annual inflation rose to 2.7% in June, and the national average tariff is 18.7%, the highest since 1933.
Regarding personal finances, only 10% of working-class voters feel better off than a year ago, while 47% say they are worse off. These indicators have remained virtually unchanged since May.
Immigration boosts Trump, but Epstein case holds him back
The immigration issue represents one of the few strong points for Trump. In July, his approval in this area rose to 47%, up from 39% in June.
The historic drop in illegal crossings and the increased budget for detentions and deportations—including the controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” center in Florida—reinforce his tough-on-immigration image.
However, the Epstein case could become a new challenge.
Seventy-seven percent of respondents demand full transparency in the case files, and 68% believe there is a government cover-up. Only 24% approve of Trump’s handling of the issue, while 48% disapprove.
