U.S. President Donald Trump allegedly rejected a plan presented by Israel to assassinate Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a U.S. official who spoke to CNN.

The proposal was dismissed in a context of growing tension between Israel and Iran, marked by a series of missile exchanges.

The revelation comes as the United States continues to provide technical support to Israel to intercept Iranian missiles.

Although Trump has made it clear that he wishes to keep his country out of an open conflict in the Middle East.

Trump Allegedly Rejected Israeli Plan to Assassinate Iranian Leader

Trump’s alleged refusal to authorize a high-profile targeted assassination against Iran’s supreme leader suggests a strategy of containment at a time when pressure on the White House is high both militarily and politically.

The episode also illustrates the complex relations between Washington and Tel Aviv, especially amid the Iranian regional offensive.

Although U.S. involvement in the conflict has been limited to defensive operations, the rejection of a lethal operation against a key figure in the Iranian regime could have significant implications for international diplomacy, regional security, and U.S. domestic politics.

CNN highlighted this.

Official Reactions

Asked by Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu avoided confirming or denying the proposal, stating, “There are so many false reports about conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that.”

Later, a spokesperson for Netanyahu called the CNN report regarding the alleged Israeli plan to assassinate the Iranian leader “FALSE.”

The network also attempted to obtain statements from the White House and the National Security Council.

However, so far, no official response has been issued.

What’s Next

The leaked information could further strain the relationship between the United States and Iran.

And also increase scrutiny of Trump’s foreign policy decisions in an election year.

Analysts anticipate that such revelations will continue to fuel debate over Washington’s role in the Middle East.
