In a move that has stirred significant controversy in U.S. political circles, President Donald Trump on Friday revoked access to classified information from his predecessor Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and several of his political rivals, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The decision was made official through a memorandum signed by Trump and directed to key government agencies.

The document, published by the White House on Friday night, states that it is “no longer in the national interest” for these individuals to have access to sensitive information. This also includes the revocation of their credentials to enter government buildings.

The list of affected individuals includes 15 prominent figures, among them Biden and “any other member” of his family, as well as Harris and Clinton, who both ran against Trump in previous elections.

Also named are Antony Blinken, former Secretary of State, and Jake Sullivan, former National Security Advisor—both key players in Biden’s foreign policy team.

Trump Revokes Classified Access from Adversaries

Trump justified the measure as a response to Biden’s 2021 decision to deny him access to intelligence briefings following the January 6 Capitol insurrection, when Trump supporters attempted to block certification of his electoral defeat.

At the time, Biden argued that Trump’s “erratic behavior” made him unfit to continue receiving classified briefings.

Trump’s new action affects not only political rivals but also individuals involved in legal investigations against him.

These include former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger, a member of the congressional committee that investigated the Capitol attack, and District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who led the criminal case that made Trump the first sitting U.S. president to be convicted of a crime.

Trump and His Plan to Enforce the Measure

Trump had already hinted at his plan to enforce this measure back in February, describing it as an act of retaliation.

However, the action has reignited political tensions in Washington and drawn criticism from opponents, who see it as a personal vendetta that could undermine national security.

Meanwhile, analysts warn that the precedent of revoking classified access from former officials could further politicize a practice traditionally kept apart from partisan battles.

The move is set to become another flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between Trump and his political rivals, highlighting the deeply polarized nature of the current U.S. political landscape.
