President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will shorten the 50-day deadline he had given Russian leader Vladimir Putin to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The new deadline will be “in 10 or 12 days,” he said while in Scotland after meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Trump expressed his “great disappointment” with Putin, arguing that the Russian leader has failed to honor previous ceasefire agreements.
Newsweek reported the announcement.

If Russia does not stop its attacks, Trump has promised to impose severe secondary sanctions.
These sanctions would especially target countries that continue to trade with Moscow.
This could directly affect China and India.
The Kremlin has not issued an official response, but diplomatic tensions continue to escalate.
Why It Matters
President Trump changes his deadline for Putin to “10 or 12 days from today” to make a peace deal with Ukraine.

Trump was criticized for initially offering a seven-week deadline, which some considered a “green light” for Moscow to intensify its attacks.
Since then, Russia has launched hundreds of drones against Ukrainian cities and reinforced its military production with new facilities such as the massive drone factory in Tatarstan.
Now, the U.S. president’s shift in tone reveals growing frustration with Putin’s unwillingness to halt hostilities.
Organizations like Hope for Ukraine praised Trump’s decision and urged Congress to act quickly.
“We thought we had solved it several times, and then President Putin launches missiles at cities like Kyiv, leaving dead bodies in the streets,” Trump told reporters.
What Comes Next
The new deadline imposed by Trump could accelerate actions by both Russia and its strategic allies.
Warnings of 100% sanctions on countries trading with Moscow open a new economic front, particularly sensitive for China and India, which have increased their imports of Russian fuel.
Experts such as Zev Faintuch of Global Guardian warn that all parties are seeking to gain ground before the deadline expires.
Russia’s strategy appears to focus on ramping up pressure with massive attacks to strengthen its position in possible negotiations.
The immediate future will depend on the Kremlin’s response and whether the U.S. Congress is willing to back the threat with real sanctions. Geopolitical uncertainty is mounting as the diplomatic clock ticks down.
