According to the EFE news agency, U.S. President Donald Trump once again clashed with Democratic governors by announcing the deployment of the National Guard in Chicago and Baltimore.

During a statement at the White House, the president insisted that the measure would move forward despite opposition from local authorities.

“We’re going to do it anyway. We have the right to do it, because I have the obligation to protect this country, and that includes Baltimore,” Trump said.

The decision comes amid political tensions and a growing debate over the militarization of cities.

Rejection from Illinois and Trump’s Arguments to Deploy the National Guard

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker had warned hours earlier that the president was preparing to militarize Chicago “as he did with Washington and Los Angeles.”

Pritzker reiterated that his state does not need National Guard intervention.

However, Trump argued that violence in Chicago is out of control.

“According to our data, nine or ten people were killed and another 50 hit by bullets,” the president declared.

Trump described the city as a “living hell” that requires an immediate response.

He did not provide specific details about the deployment date.

The president added that the measure also has a political component, since the affected cities are governed by Democrats.

Since August 11, Trump has ordered the militarization of Washington, D.C., with the presence of the National Guard.

Discrepancies with Official Homicide Figures

On that occasion, he took direct control of the Metropolitan Police Department of the capital.

The president justified the action in Washington by claiming “crime is out of control.”

However, local data showed homicides at their lowest levels in the past 30 years.

The discrepancy between official statistics and the president’s narrative generated sharp criticism from opposition sectors.

Baltimore Added to Announcement

Governor Pritzker also revealed that the state of Illinois had recently been contacted by Border Patrol.

According to him, they received a call from the sector chief announcing the transfer of federal agents from other parts of the country to Chicago.

Pritzker described this as an attempt by the White House to impose federal presence without coordination with state authorities.

During his statement, Trump expanded the scope of his announcement to include Baltimore.
