According to EFE, Latinos in the United States are facing an increasingly dangerous environmental outlook as a result of policies enacted by President Donald Trump.
A recent report by Climate Power En Acción states that budget cuts and the suspension of environmental protection contracts during Trump’s administration have increased the vulnerability of these communities to the effects of climate change.
The organization, which works to raise awareness and mobilize Latinos around climate justice, warns that the actions taken under Trump’s leadership represent a significant setback in the progress made in recent years.
During his presidency, Trump dismantled numerous regulations aimed at reducing carbon emissions and protecting communities most exposed to pollution and extreme events like hurricanes, wildfires, and heat waves.
Policy Decisions Deepen Inequality

According to Climate Power En Acción, these actions have a direct and disproportionate impact on Latinos, who often live in densely populated urban areas or near polluting industries.
Many of these communities also lack access to adequate healthcare, insurance, or infrastructure capable of withstanding climate-intensified natural disasters.
The organization argues that these political decisions are not only irresponsible but also exacerbate the social and economic inequalities already faced by many Latinos across the country.
To produce the report, Climate Power En Acción partnered with Latino-led environmental justice organizations, which detailed how Trump-era policies have undermined years of grassroots efforts.
Latinos and Climate Change: A Dangerous Setback

Among the testimonies gathered were stories of communities that had succeeded in reducing their exposure to pollutants, implementing recycling programs, or improving the energy efficiency of their homes—achievements now at risk.
The cuts have also impacted funding for education and community programs focused on climate resilience, weakening the ability of these neighborhoods to respond to future extreme weather events.
One of the report’s critical points is the repeal of key environmental regulations, such as the Clean Power Plan, which aimed to limit emissions from power plants.
Trump also promoted the expansion of fossil fuel use by approving new pipelines and loosening restrictions on the oil industry—decisions that experts say contribute to the worsening of global warming.
Urgent Need for Justice and Political Participation
According to Climate Power En Acción, it is urgent to reverse these setbacks and reinstate policies that prioritize both sustainability and social equity.
The organization emphasizes that climate change does not affect all people equally. Latinos, along with other racial minorities and low-income communities, suffer the most severe consequences.
They are calling on policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels to listen to the voices of the most affected communities and to develop inclusive policies that end environmental injustice.
The group also encourages Latinos to take an active role in democratic processes: to stay informed and to vote for leaders who are committed to environmental protection and social justice.
