The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency announced the arrest of a rookie officer from the Hanover Park Police Department, accused of living illegally in the United States.

Radule Bojovic, born in Montenegro, was detained on Wednesday as part of Operation Midway Blitz, a selective immigration action led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

According to ICE, Bojovic entered the United States on a B-2 tourist visa in 2015 but remained in the country after his legal permit expired.

The undocumented police officer was in the midst of his field training when he was arrested.

An official Facebook post from the Hanover Park Police Department indicated that Bojovic was completing his 15-week field instruction period.

Questions arise about Hanover Park Police Department

Federal authorities stated that it remains unclear how Bojovic managed to pass the required background checks to be hired as a police officer.

The standard recruitment process for officers includes background verification, immigration history review, and security interviews, but the DHS questioned why the local department failed to detect his irregular immigration status.

The case has raised doubts about police recruitment protocols in Illinois and the role of state and local agencies in enforcing immigration laws.

So far, the Hanover Park Police Department has not provided additional details about the internal investigation related to the case.

Radule Bojovic’s arrest triggers political confrontation in Illinois

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem used Radule Bojovic’s case to criticize Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Noem accused the governor of refusing to cooperate with federal border security policies.

According to Noem, Pritzker has rejected deploying the National Guard in Chicago despite what she described as an increase in security threats.

The official also attacked Illinois’ sanctuary laws, which limit cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration agencies.

In her statement, Noem linked these policies to what occurred in Hanover Park.

She claimed that decisions like those in Illinois create additional risks to public safety.

ICE accuses Hanover Park of negligence

DHS Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement directly blaming the Hanover Park Police Department.

McLaughlin asserted that the department granted a badge to what she called a “criminal illegal immigrant.”

The official echoed President Donald Trump’s rhetoric on the criminalization of undocumented immigrants.

She described it as a “serious crime” for a person without legal authorization to possess a firearm.

“A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law,” McLaughlin added.

Political controversy over arrest of undocumented police officer

The case adds to other recent high-profile arrests made by ICE.

In September, the agency detained Ian Andre Roberts, superintendent of the Des Moines, Iowa school district.

Roberts was accused of living illegally in the United States since the early 2000s.

He was later also charged with firearm-related offenses.

The case of the undocumented police officer Radule Bojovic remains under federal investigation as ICE considers potential additional immigration charges.
