The United States government has decided to suspend certain arms shipments to Ukraine, including air defense missiles, bombs, and artillery components, following a review of its military spending and foreign support policy.
White House officials confirmed that the measure aims to “prioritize the country’s interests,” amid growing concerns over the critical level of its strategic reserves.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized the review that led to the suspension of specific shipments.
Anna Kelly, Deputy White House Press Secretary, explained in a statement cited by the US press that this decision responds to the need to protect US defensive capabilities in the face of potential global crises.
Pentagon officials specified that among the suspended munitions are interceptors for Patriot systems, precision artillery shells, and missiles for Ukrainian F-16 aircraft.

According to reports in the American press, the Trump Administration is concerned about the low level of certain weapons reserves after more than two years of intense support for Ukraine.
Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, the United States had been the primary arms supplier for Kyiv, sending everything from air defense systems to tanks and heavy munitions.
Moreover, Donald Trump’s arrival to the presidency in January of this year has marked a shift in foreign policy priorities.
His administration has placed greater emphasis on internal security and the protection of strategic military reserves, limiting the speed and volume of arms transfers abroad.

The impact of the US decision could be felt on the battlefield, at a time when Ukraine is facing a prolonged war with no prospect of imminent peace and is in dire need of weapons shipments.
However, Europeans have begun to offset part of that reduction. According to the latest report from the Kiel Institute, which monitors Western aid to Ukraine, Europe has already surpassed the US in the total volume of military assistance.
The report details that Europeans have sent around 72 billion euros in military aid, compared to the United States’ 65 billion dollars.
So reported EFE.
This trend reinforces European leadership in sustaining Ukraine’s war effort, but underscores Washington’s limitations and internal dilemmas in continuing large-scale support without compromising its national defense capacity.
