The products under alert

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning on August 14.

The alert concerns two items distributed online through Target.com and other digital retailers.

This followed the detection of serious health and safety risks to consumers.

So reported Newsweek.

Urgent recall of products sold at Target

The affected products are:

  • Remington Hair Dryers, model D3190DCDN, manufactured by Empower Brands, with over 56,300 units in circulation. The defect lies in the absence of an immersion protection device, meaning that if the appliance comes into contact with water while plugged in, it could cause electrocution or even death.
  • Drinkmate 1-Liter Carbonation Bottles, with over 106,000 units recalled. These transparent PET bottles, used in carbonated beverage kits, pose an explosion risk during use, potentially causing lacerations, impact injuries, and even hearing damage.

In total, more than 160,000 defective units were distributed through Target, Amazon, and Walmart Marketplace.

Risks and initial reports

Although no incidents have been reported with the Remington dryers, the CPSC emphasized that the risk of electrocution is real and urged consumers to stop using them immediately.

In the case of Drinkmate bottles, eight incidents have already been documented, four of which resulted in confirmed injuries.

The affected bottles carry expiration dates between January and October 2026 and were sold both individually and as part of OmniFizz starter kits.

The CPSC stressed that both products, given their electrical and pressurized nature, pose potentially catastrophic risks if used without design corrections.

What consumers should do

Authorities and the companies involved are offering immediate solutions to reduce risks:

  • Remington Hair Dryers: Consumers must cut the product’s cord, take a photo, and submit it through Remington’s official recall website to receive a full refund. These appliances were sold exclusively online between March 2024 and June 2025, priced between $25 and $32.
  • Drinkmate Bottles: Users should mark the bottle with the word “Recall,” take a photo, and complete a form on the company’s portal. In exchange, they will receive a safe replacement.

Target, for its part, stated in a press release that consumer safety is its “top priority” and maintains a complete list of recalled products on its website.

The CPSC also urged users to report any additional problems at SaferProducts.gov, as it remains alert to the possibility that other products in similar categories may also present defects.
