Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodríguez announced his resignation on Tuesday, according to the EFE agency.

This comes amid controversy over the results of a recent report that found police did not violate policy during the Texas shooting.

This caused outrage among the relatives of the 21 victims. They say the process was not transparent.

On the day of the shooting, in which 19 children and two teachers died, Rodríguez was on vacation and had left Lieutenant Mariano Pargas, who resigned six months after the massacre, in charge.

In his resignation letter, which states his last day will be April 6, Rodríguez did not mention the Robb elementary school tragedy.

Nor did he highlight the scrutiny his department has faced since the massacre, which occurred on May 24, 2022, according to EFE.

The resignation comes after the controversy sparked by a report released last week that said the police response was appropriate.

This report, which was requested by Uvalde city leaders, contradicts the results of other reports that found «cascading failures.»

The report, conducted by private investigator, and former police officer, Jesse Prado, claimed that the officers committed no crimes and violated no policies in their response to the massacre.

He attributed their failures to communication problems and parents outside the school being difficult to control.

This outraged the victims’ families, who labeled the conclusions as «a disrespectful joke.»

Furthermore, these explanations have not been sufficient to quell the growing outrage and public skepticism.

Why was the report delayed?

Prado, a retired Austin,Texas police officer, was hired by the city of Uvalde to conduct the report at a cost of $100,000. It was supposed to be delivered by the end of October 2022.

However, he took 19 months to deliver the results, which have not been disclosed to the general public, according to EFE.

Prado’s conclusions contradict a series of reports that found numerous failures in the police response that day.

One thing that particularly outraged the community was that it took 77 minutes for them to confront the assailant, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, who was ultimately killed.

In January, the Department of Justice labeled the local police response a «failure.»

This is because they mistakenly treated the situation as if it were a barricaded suspect, even though children and teachers were calling for help.

The report from federal authorities echoes the conclusions of the Texas House of Representatives investigation.

This document was presented in 2022 and found «systemic failures» among law enforcement agencies and school security protocols to stop Ramos.
