How can I vote? Mississippi requires an excuse for voting by mail. Acceptable reasons include being unable to vote in person, having a temporary or permanent physical disability, being 65 years or older, or being temporarily residing outside the county of residence.
To vote by mail, request a ballot application from your circuit court and follow the instructions carefully. Applications must be acknowledged, and completed ballots must also be acknowledged and returned by mail, postmarked on or before Election Day.
For early in-person voting, valid reasons include being a student or teacher away from home, having a physical disability, being hospitalized outside the county, or being 65 years or older. Visit your circuit clerk’s office during regular business hours or until noon on the Saturday before Election Day to vote early.
On Election Day, voting sites are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and those in line by closing time have the right to vote.
