Walmart has confirmed a series of layoffs in the United States as part of its restructuring plan.

The company aims to optimize its services and budget, leading to the closure of its office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This decision will impact hundreds of employees, some of whom will be relocated to Walmart’s headquarters in California and Arkansas.

The news was first reported by USA TODAY, which obtained access to an internal company memo.

In the document, Walmart informed its staff in Hoboken, New Jersey, and other smaller offices that they will be required to relocate to Bentonville, Arkansas, or Sunnyvale, California.

«Our values and culture are strategic differentiators for us as a company, and they are strengthened by being together,» wrote Donna Morris, Walmart’s Chief People Officer, in the memo.

«We have already seen the benefits of having more teams working together in person, and today we are announcing another step that will help accelerate our momentum,» she added.

«We are making these changes to bring together key capabilities, fostering speed and shared understanding.»

The company assured that employees have already been notified and are receiving support for both relocation and severance packages in cases of dismissal.

This type of workforce reduction is uncommon for Walmart, one of the largest and most stable employers in the United States.

However, the office closures and employee relocations are part of a growth strategy and resource optimization plan.

According to Bloomberg, hundreds of corporate employees will be affected in the short term due to this restructuring, as reported by El Cronista.

The move aligns with a broader trend among major corporations and the U.S. government, which are requiring employees to return to the office at least three days a week.

Additionally, Walmart’s restructuring marks a major shift in its work model, focusing on greater centralization of operations.

The company continues to adapt to market dynamics and make strategic decisions to strengthen its long-term position.
