What started as an ordinary holiday turned into an unforgettable moment for Rebecca González, a Walmart employee in Los Angeles County.
A last-minute call to cover a short shift on Labor Day set the stage for a life-changing twist in her story.
Like many others, Rebecca had planned to spend the holiday with her family, who had organized a barbecue.
However, her boss requested that she work a brief three-hour shift. Reluctantly, she agreed, putting her job responsibilities ahead of her personal plans.

“I obviously wanted to be home with my family because we had planned a barbecue,” Rebeca González told the California Lottery.
During her shift, the busyness of the day distracted her from her original plan to purchase a lottery ticket during her break.

However, as her shift ended and she was heading home, something caught her attention—a row of California Lottery vending machines.
“I didn’t remember that I wanted to buy a Scratchers ticket until I walked past the machines that evening,” González said.
How Did She Discover the Winning Ticket?
Trusting her instincts, Rebeca González spent $10 on a Single Double Triple Scratchers game ticket.
To her astonishment, that small purchase turned her into a $1 million jackpot winner, defying odds of 2,057,388 to 1.
“I couldn’t believe it,” González admitted. She now plans to use her winnings to pay off debts and buy a new house with her husband.
Despite her unexpected windfall, González has chosen to keep her job at the Walmart in City of Industry.
Does Rebeca González Still Work at Walmart?
Rebeca González has also kept her good fortune private, sharing the news only with her manager, who was equally stunned.
“I’ve only told one person at work,” she said. Her decision to remain discreet reflects her humility and desire to maintain a normal life despite her newfound wealth.
The Walmart store where she works received a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to lottery officials, as reported by KTLA.
González isn’t the only recent big winner in California. Three other players also won million-dollar prizes with the Ultimate Cash Scratchers game.
