The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a critical warning regarding Tropical Storm Kirk, which continues to gain strength in the Atlantic.

According to the latest reports, Kirk could develop into a major hurricane in the coming days, raising alarms across the Caribbean region.

At 11:00 p.m. AST on Monday, the NHC reported that Kirk was located 860 miles (1385 km) west of the Cape Verde Islands.

The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 12 mph (19 km/h) and is expected to maintain this trajectory through Tuesday night.

A gradual turn towards the northwest is expected starting Wednesday.

With sustained winds of 60 mph (95 km/h), authorities predict that Kirk could strengthen on Tuesday and potentially become a major hurricane.

This intensification is forecasted to happen by Wednesday night or Thursday.

On the other hand, the remnants of Tropical Storm Joyce no longer pose a threat.

Joyce, previously located in the central Atlantic, has dissipated, and the latest advisory from the NHC indicates no danger to populated areas.

Despite this, Kirk remains a potential threat, and authorities are urging close monitoring of its development.

At this time, there are no coastal warnings in effect, but meteorologists will continue to watch for any changes in Kirk’s path or intensity.

The NHC has stated that tropical storm-force winds extend up to 140 miles (220 km) from Kirk’s center, which could result in a significant impact area if the system continues to strengthen.
