A few days before the premiere of the fourth season of La Casa de los Famosos on Telemundo, one of the contestants is already emerging as a fan favorite.
It’s Sylvia del Valle, better known as La Bronca, who is now one of the most important Latina radio hosts in the United States.
«Very happy to be in this new season! Who loves you?» she wrote on her social media, sparking various reactions.
However, few know what radio host La Bronca used to do.
Sylvia del Valle pursued the American dream
Popular radio host La Bronca likely never have imagined what her life would be like now when she arrived in the United States as a young girl.
Sylvia del Valle was born in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico, and is currently married to Assi Luskey. They have a son named Luca.
In March 2022, she granted a revealing interview to María Antonieta Collins for Despierta América.
She told the journalist that, days after arriving in California, her parents found a very small place with no water or electricity — although it did have rats.
La Bronca sold used clothes
In the same interview, according to People en Español, La Bronca revealed that she realized she would have to work to support her family.
Sylvia shared that she sold used clothes and other things on a street corner, but the police bothered her frequently.
«So I would go to another corner, and the police would come there too,» she said. They stopped bothering her when they knew she was working to buy books.
«Where they saw me, they would let me set up my display of curiosities,» said the La Casa de los Famosos contestant.
She’s a jack of all trades
In addition to selling used clothes on a corner, Sylvia del Valle did other things to make money.
Before working in radio, La Bronca worked as a babysitter and dishwasher, as well as cleaning bathrooms and scrubbing floors. She also worked as a waitress.
Moreover, according to Univisión, the radio host was bullied as a child.
Other kids teased her because she was Hispanic and she defended other children who were mocked.
How did radio host La Bronca get her start?
Destiny led Sylvia del Valle to a career in radio.
La Bronca has shared on several occasions that one day she was walking and saw a flyer on the ground advertising journalism and broadcasting classes.
She immediately brought the flyer to her father and asked him to pay the registration fee.
She wasn’t going to miss out on that opportunity and gave it her all. Her life changed forever
‘I don’t mince words’
In an interview for Univisión, Sylvia del Valle recalled that a former boss gave her the nickname ‘La Bronca’ because she didn’t let anyone mess with her.
«You know I don’t mince words… And when I do, I spit them out,» she said in her very distinctive style.
After appearing on El Bueno, la Mala y el Feo, she started her own show, El Free-Güey, which was highly successful.
«I believe the greatest thing that happened to me in this decade was giving life. It’s the most wonderful thing that could have happened to me, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,» she said.
