According to authorities, the actor accidentally shot himself. A month and a half later, his family said this couldn’t be true.
Almost a year later, the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office charged a police officer involved in ‘Benito’s’ death.
On the other hand, in October 2022, the prosecutor’s office requested Interpol’s assistance in locating another officer who was still a fugitive from justice.
Will justice be served in Octavio Ocaña’s death?
Octavio Ocaña’s family conducted an independent forensic analysis, which reached a shocking conclusion.
According to this report, the young actor was subdued and executed while lying on the pavement.
Just a few months ago, in May 2023, it was possible to change reclassify the murder from manslaughter to intentional homicide.
On the other hand, lawmakers from the State of Mexico approved the Ocaña Law, which seeks to sanction those who intentionally disseminate images of corpses.
The police officer who allegedly shot Octavio Ocaña will be sentenced
According to El Universal, one of the individuals responsible for Octavio Ocaña’s death will be sentenced soon.
Octavio Pérez, the actor’s father, revealed that authorities assured him that the police officer’s legal process would conclude this month.
He could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison for murder.
«The one who shot my son is already in jail. Now we need to catch the other one who is a fugitive and those who hindered the investigation,» he said.
80 witnesses in the oral trial
Through her Instagram account, Octavio Ocaña’s sister reported that the oral trial for ‘Benito’s’ murder would begin on December 4.
The family’s lawyer said they were prepared to fight for a guilty verdict for the main perpetrator.
It was also revealed that there would be 80 witnesses.
Authorities are offering a reward of 300,000 pesos (a little over $17,000) for anyone with more information about the fugitive police officer.
No sentence yet
According to TV Azteca, one of the individuals responsible for Octavio Ocaña’s death has not yet been sentenced.
Among those who have given their statements are hospital staff who treated the actor.
There were also employees of Federal Roads and Bridges, according to the Ocaña family’s lawyer.
However, the only person who has not testified is the police officer Leopoldo ‘N’, who is in prison. Gerardo ‘N’ is still on the run.
