On Wednesday, October 11 it was announced that El Puma’s son, José Luis Rodríguez, had died.

Although the singer of songs like ‘Culpable Soy Yo’ never officially recognized him, the physical resemblance between them is striking.

His alleged half-sisters, Liliana and Lilibeth Morillo, broke the news of his death.

Liliana and Lilibeth shared an Instagram post announcing their half brother’s death.

«As a family, we share the painful and regrettable news of the death of Juan José Rodríguez El Puma Jr in Pereira, Colombia.»

The sisters revealed that the cause of his death is unknown, and it is being investigated.

Were they also sending a message to their father?

In this post, that sparked a variety of reactions, the Morillo sisters also spoke directly to El Puma’s son.

«Beloved brother of my heart, I can now say that I know what it’s like to have a brother. You are the best Rodríguez version there was and will ever be.» Was this an indirect message for the singer as well?

They also reveal that El Puma Jr. died in a surprising way, just as he lived.

«Today, I thank you for teaching me so much through your love and humility and may that sweet, soft, and melodic voice of yours always praise our God.»

El Puma Jr. was a singer… like his father

According to El Comercio, Juan José Rodríguez was 53 at the time he died.

Like the singer of songs like ‘Sueño Contigo’ and the popular ‘Agárrense de las Manos’, Juan José was born in Caracas, Venezuela.

He was also a singer and music producer. As mentioned earlier, his physical resemblance to El Puma is notable.

Five years ago, he revealed that he was raised by his grandmother (El Puma’s mother), who affectionately called him ‘Pumita’.

El Puma’s brother acknowledged Juan José

Juan José Rodríguez also said that he had a good relationship with El Puma’s first wife, Lila Morillo, the mother of Lilibeth and Liliana.

A year later, in 2019, on SOS Hoy, which airs in the Dominican Republic, he mentioned that his uncle, Osvaldo Rodríguez, acknowledged him legally.

For this reason, he went by the name Rodríguez, even though his father never admitted he was his son.

Besides being involved in the entertainment world, he was a successful entrepreneur, as he had his own wine label: El Puma Jr. Wines.

El Puma hasn’t spoken publicly

Hours after the news of Juan José Rodríguez’s death broke, the singer shared a post on social media.

However, when one might expect him to dedicate a few words to El Puma Jr., he limited himself to announcing a concert.

According to El Comercio, the artist referred to Juan José as «that young man» in an interview he gave in 1995.

«That young man is my brother’s son who is in Venezuela. My brother Osvaldo is a very amorous man,» El Puma said.
