  • A woman tried to pass a field sobriety test but it didn’t go well.
  • She began to dance in the middle of the street to try to pass the sobriety test.
  • Police released dash-cam video of the performance.

Although it seems like a scene from a comedy, this actually happened in Florida. A woman who rear-ended another driver began to dance for the police officers in an unusual attempt to pass their sobriety test and avoid a DUI. It didn’t go as she hoped and the woman was arrested.

Amy Harrington, 38, of Madeira Beach, rear-ended another vehicle a mile from her home on April 27, police told local outlet WFLA. When Pinellas County deputies arrived at the scene, they noticed the woman had red, watery eyes and dilated pupils.

On the spot, Amy Harrington tried to walk a straight line during a sobriety test but gave up and instead began dancing. The incident was caught on a dash-cam video that was released by authorities on Saturday, August 27.

She «struggled to follow instructions, and was unsteady on her feet almost falling,» detailed arrest documents obtained by WFLA, also quoted by the New York Post. The woman, dressed in black shorts and a white top, danced heartily before being asked to walk the line, the recording showed.

“Do you want to pay attention so I can give you the instructions?” asked an officer applying the DUI test. «Yeah, well, you sound like my ballet coach, so, sounds about right,» Amy Harrington responded before doing another dance move, according to police video.

«That was not the exercise I was showing you,» the officer said. The woman then proceeded to perform «multiple ballet and Irish folk dance movements,» and she can be seen waving her arms and dancing around the line on the floor and in front of the unimpressed officer.

The woman later refused to take a drug test, marking the second time she has refused to take a field sobriety test after a separate incident in Pinellas County on March 3, 2019, authorities said. In the end, Amy Harrington ended up charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and causing property damage, the report said.

In addition, the woman was also accused of refusing to submit to the  sobriety test. Officers noted in their report that they found a white foamy glass containing a pale yellow liquid that smelled like alcohol in the center cup holder of Amy Harrington’s car, WFLA said.
