At least twenty people have died in a pair of shootings in the Lewiston, Maine.
Hours after the shootings — the deadliest of the year and two of the deadliest in recent decades — the gunman remains at large.
Hundreds of police searched for a person of interest as communities remained under stay-at-home orders.
People who were at the scene have described the terror they experienced.
Maine shooting suspect is identified

The shooter was identified as Robert Card, described by authorities as being «armed and dangerous.»
According to ABC News, the suspect is a firearms instructor with a history of mental health problems.
The killer used an “AR-15-style” rifle to open fire inside a bowling alley called Sparetime Recreation where there were a large number of teenagers.
Reports from witnesses claim that they tried to escape by running through the alleys.
Residents are under a stay-at-home order

Maine police ordered all Lewiston residents to shelter in place due to the situation.
«Please avoid roads to allow emergency services access to hospitals,» local authorities said.
The alert was activated shortly after 8:00 p.m. local time, when the sheriff’s office reported that authorities were investigating the shooting.
«We urge all businesses to close their doors while we investigate,» the sheriff’s office stated.
A night of terror

Witnesses described the scene as terrifying, as many of the survivors believed they would die.
People hid behind benches and tables and even inside the machine at the end of the lane where the pins are.
A woman, who was at the scene, named Riley Dumont described what happened to ABC News shared important revelations.
Her father, a retired police officer, tried to get her to safety with her daughter and her mother.
The survivors describe what they went through

Riley’s father barricaded them in a corner to protect them from the bullets.
She says that the protection included «tables and a big bench that the kids were hiding behind.»
«I was laying on top of my daughter. My mother was laying on top of me,» Dumont said.
Fortunately, no one from Riley’s family was injured in October 25 shooting.
How did they survive?

Riley also shared frightening details: “It felt like it had lasted a lifetime.”
«I only remember people sobbing and crying,» she told ABC.
Another witness at the bowling alley, whose name is Brandon but whose last name was not released, described hearing a «loud pop.»
«I had my back turned to the door. As soon as I turned and saw that it was not a balloon, he was holding a weapon.»
Biden pledges support

President Joe Biden spoke with the governor of Maine to offer support from the federal government in the face of this terrible massacre.
According to the White House, President Biden also spoke with the senators for the state, Angus King and Susan Collins.
He also contacted Congressman Jaren Golden, and offered all of them the “full federal support” of his administration.
It is expected that in the next few hours there will be more information about the whereabouts of the shooter.
