Police in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, India, are investigating a crime that has shocked the community after the body of a 14-year-old girl was found in a canal.

The teenager, just about to turn 15, was allegedly murdered by her own father, Ajay Sharma, a 40-year-old man now detained on charges of aggravated homicide.

According to initial reports, the accused declared that he killed her because she had stolen 500 rupees, roughly 100 Mexican pesos.

The case has generated outrage in the region, as the victim was a seventh-grade student and was found still wearing her school uniform.

On Friday afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., local police received a call alerting them to a body found under a bridge in the jurisdiction of the Anupshahr police station.

Officers immediately went to the scene and confirmed it was a minor, beginning the first steps of the investigation.

Among the bushes, they found the body, and in a nearby field, they also recovered her school backpack, which reinforced the crime hypothesis.

Following the initial investigation, police began questioning the father, who eventually confessed that he had committed the murder.

Ajay Sharma’s Confession

According to his statement, Ajay Sharma picked up the teenager from school on Thursday and took her home, where they argued about the alleged theft.

During interrogation, he admitted to strangling her with a scarf before throwing her body into the canal to hide the crime.

He explained that days earlier, he had already caught the girl taking money from the house, which had led to family disputes.

Although he admitted the amount was not significant, he claimed he considered it a serious offense and acted accordingly.

Ajay Sharma’s Attempt to Cover Up

After the murder, Ajay Sharma tried to hide his daughter’s disappearance by lying to the school.

He told them that the girl had gone to stay with relatives and would not return to classes for a few days.

His testimony raised suspicions, and police intensified the investigation until uncovering the truth.

Finally, the accused was arrested and now faces charges including aggravated murder, child abuse, and concealment of a body.

A Community in Shock

The victim was from the village of Bichaula, near the district where her body was discovered.

Neighbors expressed surprise and outrage, saying they did not recall any previous episodes of violence between father and daughter.

Authorities are still investigating whether the teenager lived only with her father or had other close relatives.

For now, the investigation aims to reconstruct the girl’s last movements and corroborate Ajay Sharma’s version of events.

Ongoing Investigation

Police will review cameras, school communications, and testimonies that may provide more information about the motive for the crime.

They are also analyzing whether there were accomplices or anyone who helped cover up the events after the murder.

The canal where the body was found remains under review to rule out third-party involvement.

Meanwhile, outrage in the community continues to grow, and the news has gone viral in local media as a reminder of the vulnerability of minors in contexts of domestic violence, according to El Heraldo de México.
