Last Sunday, eastern Alabama was hit by flash floods that resulted in the death of one person and left another seriously injured, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
The torrential rains led to the closure of several roads, triggering a crisis in Cleburne County, located just across the Georgia-Alabama border.
From 11:45 a.m. Saturday to the same time on Sunday, the area received 13 inches of rain, causing rivers and creeks to overflow.
At 6:20 a.m. Sunday, floodwaters swept away a car on the 3000 block of County Road 41.

There were two people in the vehicle, who were quickly located by rescue teams, according to Fox 5.
One of the victims was found alive in a tree with serious injuries, while teams found the other deceased at the scene.

Several emergency departments carried out the rescue efforts and worked tirelessly to locate people trapped in the water after the Cleburne County floodings.
Shortly after, at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, another car was swept away on County Road 10, near County Road 635.

Fortunately, there was only one person in that vehicle, and Cleburne County firefighters successfully rescued them.
Fire Chief Patrick Nolen emphasized the danger of flooding and the importance of heeding weather warnings.
«The safety of our community is our top priority, and while we are grateful to have rescued those affected, we urge everyone to take flood warnings seriously.»
«Never attempt to cross flooded roads, as even small amounts of water can quickly become dangerous,» Nolen said.
