South-central Texas is facing an unprecedented emergency following historic rainfall that fell Friday morning.

The torrential downpours unleashed a deadly flood wave on the Guadalupe River, leaving destruction and chaos in their wake.

Authorities in Kerr County confirmed the discovery of several bodies, though they have not disclosed the exact number.

On social media, desperate pleas are circulating for help locating missing persons in the affected area.

“This is a catastrophic flood event in Kerr County,” declared the Sheriff’s Office. “We can confirm fatalities, but we will not release further details until families are notified,” the statement read.

Panic spread as far as a local camp, where reports emerged of several missing children.

“We can’t say for certain that everyone has been accounted for,” warned Rob Kelly, Kerr County Judge. “We know there are some missing. We know where some are: stranded,” he said during a press conference.

The torrential rains far exceeded any expectations, catching both residents and authorities off guard.

Flood Wave Warnings Issued in Texas

FOX Forecast Center reported that the first Flash Flood Emergency was issued near San Angelo.

Between 12 and 15 inches of rain fell in just a few hours, causing severe flooding in residential areas.

“Automatic rain gauges show a large, deadly flood wave moving down the Guadalupe River,” the National Weather Service warned.

“Flash flooding is already occurring. This is an especially dangerous situation. Seek higher ground now!” urged the NWS.

Extreme Guadalupe River Rises

Water surged with unprecedented force, wreaking havoc along the river’s course. In Kerrville, the Guadalupe River rose more than 20 feet in just one hour, according to official measurements.

In Comfort, Texas, the surge was even more dramatic, reaching 26.7 feet in only 45 minutes. “We didn’t know this flood was coming,” Judge Kelly admitted.

“Don’t worry, no one knew a flood of this magnitude was coming,” he emphasized. In Kerr County alone, over 7 inches of rain fell in just six hours.

In Brady, floodwaters invaded homes and forced numerous emergency rescues.

Evacuations and Emergency Shelters Opened

The NWS confirmed that the river level surpassed even the historic flood of 1987. “All residents of Kerrville living near the Guadalupe River are urged to evacuate immediately,” local police warned.

“This is a potentially deadly event. Don’t wait,” they advised in a statement. A nearby Walmart has been set up as a temporary shelter for those affected.

The sheriff’s office reported that they are working in coordination with local and state agencies to manage the emergency.

“The entire county is in an extremely active situation,” deputies warned. “Residents are urged to shelter in place and avoid traveling,” they insisted.

More Rain and Persistent Threats

People living near creeks, streams, or the Guadalupe River were instructed to move to higher ground without delay.

In San Angelo, a 2-mile-wide swath was heavily flooded. Rescue crews continue combing the area for people trapped or in danger.

The city’s dispatch center received over 100 calls for help between 5 and 6 a.m. Meanwhile, rain and storms are forecast to continue across Texas throughout Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service warned that the risk of additional flash flooding remains high, especially in West Texas.

Flood Wave Sweeps Through Texas

Flood warnings were issued across western Texas and parts of New Mexico. Some locations could receive an additional 3 to 5 inches of rainfall.

The flooding is linked to a stationary front that continues to dump rain. In addition, an upper-level disturbance over the Four Corners region is contributing to the unstable conditions.

Even areas in the southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado could see storms in the coming hours.

The emergency in Texas remains ongoing as rescue teams and authorities work tirelessly to protect lives, according to Fox Weather.
