- Reported by AP.
- Here are the details.
The state of Florida has scheduled the execution of Michael Tanzi for April, convicted for the kidnapping and murder of Janet Acosta, an employee of the Miami Herald.
The order was signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, marking the third execution in the state this year.
Tanzi, 48, attacked and raped Acosta in April 2000 while she was on her lunch break inside her van at a Miami park.
He subsequently took her to the Florida Keys, where he murdered her. In 2003, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery, unanimously recommending the death penalty.

Since his sentencing, Tanzi has filed various appeals and motions to overturn his sentence, but all have been rejected by the courts.
The execution will be carried out by lethal injection, the usual method in Florida.
This case adds to a context of debate over the death penalty in the United States, especially following the recent execution in South Carolina of an inmate by firing squad, the first in the country in 15 years and the first in that state’s history.

The convict, Richard Sigmon, opted for this method over concerns that lethal injection could cause a slow and painful death.
With Tanzi’s imminent execution, the debate over capital punishment and its methods continues to generate controversy in the country.
