A Florida woman, identified as Chuanying He, faces criminal charges for the murder of her husband, Robert Heyden, whom she attacked with acid while he was sleeping in their home in New Port Richey.
The case has shocked the Briar Patch community, where the events occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, August 21, according to People en Español.
Police reports state that He, 50, took advantage of her husband’s sleep to pour sulfuric acid, a highly corrosive chemical, onto him, causing severe burns.
After the attack, she barricaded the bedroom door with wood and wires, trapping the man inside and leaving him in agony without a way to escape.

Authorities described the scene as terrifying, as neighbors reported hearing the screams of Heyden, 65, desperately calling for help.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that police received the 911 emergency call around 5:15 p.m. and, surprisingly, it was He herself who contacted authorities.

When officers arrived, they found the victim still alive but in critical condition, pleading for help from inside the locked room.
Heyden was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors attempted to save him. However, he later died from the severity of his injuries.
Chuanying He Murdered Her Husband
Investigations revealed that He had previously attempted to harm her husband, according to Channel 8 News, strengthening the first-degree murder charge.
The woman was arrested and also faces aggravated assault charges causing bodily harm—offenses that could lead to a life sentence.
Authorities stated that the couple had been married for just one year, having wed in August 2024.
Sources close to the family said the pair were going through a separation at the time of the crime, which may have been one of the triggers for the violent attack.
Remains in Custody
The New Port Richey community is horrified by the brutality of the case, which highlights the risk of extreme violence within domestic settings.
Investigators are still gathering evidence to determine whether there was further premeditation beyond what the accused has admitted.
Meanwhile, the woman remains in custody awaiting trial, which has drawn significant media attention in Florida and beyond.
