Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, head of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Defense), revealed that the leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación was located in the area a couple of days earlier thanks to intelligence personnel who tracked one of his romantic partners.

On February 20, a man close to El Mencho’s partner transported her to a cabin area in Tapalpa, where it had been arranged that she would meet the criminal leader.

Although she left the site the following day, Oseguera remained in the area with his security circle, prompting the Army’s Special Forces to plan the operation to capture him.
