In an unprecedented move, South Korean car manufacturers Hyundai and Kia are recalling a combined total of 3,372,743 vehicles in the United States.

This decision comes amid concerns about potential fires in the engine compartment.

The surprising recall was prompted after documents published on Wednesday, September 27, highlighted these risks.

The United States National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed this information on their official website.

According to initial reports, Hyundai and Kia vehicles are showing a potentially dangerous defect.

The issue affects 1,730,192 Kia cars.

A problem has been identified where brake fluid can leak, being directed towards the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module, as detailed by the EFE agency.

Reports suggest that this fluid leakage could lead to a short circuit in the hydraulic electronic control unit.

Brake fluid leakage significantly increases the risk of fire in the engine compartment of some Kia models.

This includes the Borrego, Cadenza, Forte, Forte Koup, Sportage, K900, Optima, Optima Hybrid, Soul, Rio, Sorento, and Rondo.

On the other hand, Hyundai also faces a similar problem affecting 1,642,551 of its vehicles.

The affected Hyundai models are the Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, Accent, Azera, Veloster, Elantra Coupe, and Santa Fe.

Other models, including the Equus, Veracruz, Tucson, Tucson Fuel Cell, and Santa Fe Sport, have also been affected, as reported by EFE.

Each of these vehicles is equipped with the electronically controlled hydraulic unit manufactured by Hyundai.

To address this safety concern, Hyundai and Kia dealers will implement corrective measures.

As a part of this extensive review, a new fuse will be installed in all the affected vehicles.

This measure aims to prevent short circuits in the hydraulic electronic control unit, thereby minimizing the risk of fire.

The large-scale inspection is crucial to ensure the safety of the vehicle owners affected.

Furthermore, it’s being implemented to prevent potential catastrophic events in these vehicles, as reported by EFE.

U.S. highway safety authorities have released a statement urging precautions.

Authorities have urged all owners of affected vehicles to act on this review as soon as it becomes available.

However, ensuring the safety of motorists remains a top priority for vehicle manufacturers in the country.

These review actions are vital for addressing potential security issues.

They are implemented with the aim of prevention, to mitigate risks before they lead to serious injuries or damage, as noted by EFE and El Universal.

They have urged all owners of affected vehicles to take this review action as soon as it is available.
