The arrest of a woman by ICE agents in East Palo Alto has triggered outrage and mobilizations in the community.

The detention occurred on Monday around 8:30 a.m., a moment captured on video by Telemundo 48.

The footage shows federal officers intercepting the woman and a man who attempted to escape but was also taken into custody.

Andrea Castrejón, a neighbor who has known the family for years, expressed her closeness to them and the impact the incident has had among residents.

“They came to the church as soon as they arrived here, and that’s how I met them,” said Castrejón, emphasizing the friendship she has maintained with the family for a long time.

Faith in Action confirmed in a statement that the officers involved were federal ICE agents carrying out targeted operations against specific individuals.

The group clarified that they were not bounty hunters nor randomly detaining people passing through the area.

They also pointed out that these actions marked the first ICE arrests in East Palo Alto under the Trump administration.

On ICE’s official website, it was confirmed that the man arrested was identified as Ernesto Darío Jasso Flores, who is currently being held at the Mesa Verde Detention Center in Bakersfield, California.

As for the woman, Faith in Action reported that she was transported to Stanford Hospital after fainting during the operation.

The organization added that ICE agents remain on standby, waiting for her to be discharged so they can transfer her to a detention center.

This incident has sparked outrage in the community, which organized a protest on Tuesday in Redwood City.

Demonstrators gathered at the local courthouse to express their rejection of ICE’s actions and to support those detained.

“They are targeting people who are going to court or have to go to court, and giving them deportation orders outside their homes. We want ICE out of San Mateo,” said activist Fabiola.

Meanwhile, Telemundo 48 requested additional information from ICE regarding the arrests, but the agency has not yet responded.

The case has reignited debate over immigration policy and ICE’s tactics in Bay Area communities.
