The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the capture of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, alias El Chapito or Tocallo, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and one of the leaders of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The announcement was posted on the agency’s official “Most Wanted” page and was accompanied by a statement that generated controversy on social media.

ICE described the fugitive as an “armed and dangerous” man and added a striking phrase: “Despite his burning gaze, this thug should be considered armed and dangerous.”

This was reported by Infobae.

On the same list, ICE maintains an active reward for Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, brother of Iván Archivaldo, also accused of drug trafficking to the United States.

Also included is Juan José Farías Álvarez, alias El Abuelo, alleged leader of Cárteles Unidos, wanted for homicide and drug trafficking.

Authorities emphasized that Los Chapitos are responsible for a large portion of fentanyl trafficking into the U.S., a synthetic opioid linked to thousands of overdose deaths in the country.

According to official data, fentanyl has become one of the leading public health threats among young people aged 18 to 49.

Pressure Strategy Under Trump

The announcement is part of a broader policy by President Donald Trump’s administration to intensify pressure on Mexican cartels.

In recent months, Washington has increased financial sanctions and raised rewards for high-profile members of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The U.S. government considers El Chapo’s sons directly responsible for the production and distribution chain of fentanyl in North America.

The multimillion-dollar reward seeks to encourage citizen cooperation and strengthen investigations by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Los Chapitos’ Legal Strategy

Alongside judicial pressure, Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo hired attorney Jeffrey Lichtman, known for defending high-profile figures in organized crime, including Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán himself and his half-brothers Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán López.

The hiring of Lichtman, revealed by journalist Arturo Ángel in an interview with W Radio, shows a strategic shift in the legal defense of Los Chapitos.

They face charges in the United States under case file 00383, which identifies them as leaders of large-scale drug trafficking operations.

The move reinforces the idea that the Guzmán Salazar brothers are preparing for a prolonged legal battle in U.S. courts, while security agencies intensify the international manhunt for their leaders.
