The government of US President Donald Trump plans to detain 80,000 immigrants in industrial warehouses across the country that will be converted into detention centers.
The information was revealed this Wednesday exclusively by The Washington Post.
The outlet reports that it obtained access to a draft plan prepared by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The warehouses to be converted into detention centers would be located in six states: Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Georgia, and Missouri.
Most of the facilities are in areas governed by the Republican Party. However, the plan includes two exceptions.
Two centers would be located in Stafford, Virginia, and Kansas City, Missouri—both cities governed by Democratic administrations.
The remaining immigrant detention centers would be located in Hutchins and Baytown, Texas, as well as Hammond, Louisiana.
Glendale, Arizona, also appears on the list, while Social Circle, Georgia, completes the group of selected cities.
In addition, the plan contemplates opening smaller, new processing centers.
These facilities would have between 500 and 1,500 beds.
They would be located in Chester, New York; Salt Lake City; and Los Fresnos, Texas.
Objectives and Characteristics
According to The Washington Post, ICE plans to share this draft with private detention companies later this week.
The document states that the new centers would reduce operational costs.
It also aims to shorten processing times and limit the length of detainees’ stays.
Another key objective is to accelerate deportation procedures under the ICE plan to detain 80,000 immigrants.
The draft claims that security, dignity, and respect for detainees will be promoted.
Warehouse structures would be modified to meet these functions.
They would include housing units, showers and restrooms, kitchens and dining halls, recreational areas, and even a library.
According to data from the Department of Homeland Security published two weeks ago, the plan is already showing results.
Since January 20, 2025, the United States has deported more than 605,000 migrants.
These deportations are part of the Trump administration’s broader mass deportation strategy.
