Families and witnesses describe scenes of confusion and anguish following a large operation in south McAllen, Texas, where dozens of federal agents and state police surrounded several warehouses dedicated to used clothing.

The ICE operation began without warning, according to witnesses, catching off-guard those inside and near the McAllen facilities.

Individuals detained were escorted out of the warehouses and lined up as agents continued inspecting the area, according to Univision.

The deployment of federal and state forces quickly drew the attention of residents and nearby workers who watched from a distance.

Witnesses insist that the number of detainees exceeds one hundred, a figure they say reflects the scale of the operation.

Scenes outside the warehouses

Images circulating online of the ICE raid in McAllen show families holding documents as they tried to approach agents to learn where their loved ones were taken.

In several cases, families waited outside the warehouses for long periods.

They showed IDs, folders and paperwork in hopes that authorities would review them.

Many shouted that “they took innocent people,” a phrase repeated among those desperately seeking answers amid the chaos.

What witnesses are saying

People who witnessed the ICE operation in McAllen say the coordinated movements of federal and state officers show that authorities planned the action well in advance.

Some note that the speed with which the operation unfolded left workers little time to understand what was happening.

Observers outside also reported that companions of those detained held up documents trying to prevent agents from taking them.
