Super Bowl LX, scheduled for February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, will be marked by a strong immigration operation announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Not only will the NFL champion be decided between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, but immigration surveillance will also be present inside and outside the stadium.

Federal authorities said the deployment is intended to guarantee the safety of the event and its attendees.

The announcement comes at a time of heightened tension for immigrant communities—especially Latino communities—across the United States.

ICE Operation to Be Deployed at the Super Bowl

The DHS confirmed that agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be deployed before, during, and after Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara.

There will be a visible presence of ICE agents in the areas surrounding Levi’s Stadium, which has sparked concern among immigrant communities, according to Univision.

According to authorities, the main objective is to prevent risks and maintain order during one of the most important sporting events in the country.

“Not at the Super Bowl or anywhere else. We will find them and deport them. This is a very real situation,” said Corey Lewandowski, an adviser to the DHS.

DHS Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin Yoho stated that the operation will be carried out in accordance with the law.

She assured that constitutional rights will not be violated during the security deployment.

“The DHS is committed to working with local and federal partners to ensure the Super Bowl is safe,” she said.

She added that this approach is similar to security measures used at other large-scale sporting events.

She also emphasized that no details will be released regarding future operations or the personnel involved.

Fear Among Immigrant Communities

The announcement of the operation has generated concern among immigrants, especially undocumented individuals.

There is fear that ICE’s presence could lead to raids or detentions during the event.

This anxiety is particularly strong in California, a state with a large Latino population.

The atmosphere ahead of the Super Bowl was already tense due to immigration policies promoted by Donald Trump.

Since his return to the White House, these measures have had a direct impact on immigrant communities.

Concerns intensified following recent violent incidents attributed to ICE agents.

In recent weeks, two women were reported killed.

Renee Good was killed on January 7. Pretti was killed on January 24.

Both cases have fueled public debate about the conduct of immigration authorities.

These precedents have deepened distrust toward the operation announced for the Super Bowl.

The Warning That Raised Alarms

However, one specific statement from the federal government drew widespread attention.

“Those who are here legally and are not violating other laws have nothing to fear.”

For many, the remark was interpreted as an implicit warning directed at people without regular immigration status.

Critics argue that the message reinforces perceptions of selective surveillance during the event.

The government maintains that Super Bowl security requires a comprehensive state response.

That response, officials say, will be carried out in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.

Despite these assurances, fear persists among segments of the immigrant community.

Super Bowl LX is thus shaping up to be a sporting event deeply intertwined with the immigration debate.

Beyond the outcome on the field, the ICE operation will be one of the main focal points of attention.
